With the introduction of the 2001 Explorer Sport Trac, Ford once again proves that you can never have to many trucks in your stable. Ford isn’t the only manufacturer jumping on the compact 4-door pick-up truck/SUV market. The Sport trac is basically a four-door Explorer, with a pick-up truck bed instead of an enclosed cargo area. What you end up with is a vehicle that is still more SUV than pick-up truck.

Though the four-foot bed is at least as useful as say a Ranger Splash bed, it is not ready to handle sheets of plywood, Sheetrock, or a full yard of mulch. Highlights include a 4.0 liter V6 engine rated at 200hp, and 240 ft. lbs. of torque, 5-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, stainless steel exhaust, rood rack, power side mirrors, air conditioning, rear heat/AC ducts, AM/FM stereo cassette and single CD player, power front and rear windows, power locks, and 3 power accessory outlets.
