A market research program undertaken by American Motor Corporation, the Jeep brand owner at the time, culminated in the birth of the modern Cherokee. Jeep Cherokee is fast on highways and that's the only place it gets somewhat decent gas mileage. It is one of the original sport utility vehicles to gain acceptance into the north american market in the mid-eighties.

Altough this car's 4x4 option allows you to clear all of those treacherous potholes in downtown Detroit it isn't needed in most of America. Because of it's high ground clearance this car handles badly on turns and stops. Otherwise it is superior in craftsmenship to other cars in it's class.
