The C70 began a new model-naming convention for Volvo: C denotes coupe, while 70 represents the car's relative position in the company's product line. The Coupe, introduced at a time when coupes were not a hot ticket, but also at a time when many car makers seemed to think it was time for them to be fashionable again.
